While the outlook for riding during the winter period is typically grim in the UK, the turn of the new year is an exciting time as most motorcycle manufacturers choose to unveil and launch their newest motorcycles. The skinny steel tubes go a long way to isolating you from the small vibrations that can intrude into the ride quality, and, combined with the 30mm tyres, result in an ideal bike for making you feel at ease on many of the poorly maintained roads around the UK.

The KLR650's simplicity might be its appeal, but it also comes with the usual touring and adventure accessories like a front screen, a decent sized gas tank and luggage racks, and of course, it's an absolute joy to ride. And since most adventures require a good deal of road riding, we felt that the Super Tenere deserved a place on the list.

Fully agree with you - i bought a 2016 renegade expert for £1300 from evans, upgraded the wheelset to hunt four seasons and have a bike that's fantastic for endurance riding, a bit of cross and light touring. It's more measured than a race bike, with a long wheelbase producing the sort of stability that makes it a very easy bike to ride along back roads and over more challenging trails.

Before, the Multistrada was very much a comfy 160 hp road bike - but thanks to some successful re-engineering from Ducati, the new Enduro model is a ferocious off-roader that can genuinely tackle off-road trails…and with remarkable ease. Even though dual sport bikes are different from adventure bikes and should not be included in the adventure category, there are some nice motorcycles for new adventurers.

Both bikes will make use of a 853cc parallel twin engine (which will be detuned in the 750), which has been redesigned to effectively sound better and add a bit more oomph. Learn to ride a GS or other big bore adventure bike while riding the best trails in the country.

It's not the fastest bike I have, but it's fun and adaptable, and a great change-up from my every day road bikes and touring bikes. What we have here is one of the best adventure bikes on the market - and if you're looking to have a serious adventure, riding one of these will pay dividends.

RawHyde has been involved in the Adventure Riding segment of the motorcycle world for more than 15 years. To some riders, this is an issue, but if you're really into adventure riding, the less things that can go wrong, the better. A mid-sized adventure bike normally weighs in between 140 kg to 180 kg (fuelled without gear).

While the Ducati Multistrada might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you're trying to think of potential adventure motorcycles, it's time to change that mindset. But if you want to get serious with off-road riding, add the Rally Raid kit to the CB500X and it completely transforms the bike into something much more capable in the dirt.
